Located just south of MGM, The World Wide World
of Sports is a state of the art sports facility that is
spread out over 200 acres. There's a 7,500-seat baseball
stadium and a multi-sport 5,000-seat field house that can
accommodate basketball, volleyball, tennis, weight lifting
and gymnastics competitions.
You might not
notice some of the amenities of the park if you only walk
through the complex. It is not until you visit the facility
as a spectator or athlete do you realize Disney's many
achievements. One such subtle achievement is the fact that
80 percent of the baseball stadium's seats are between first
and third base. Since the Atlanta Braves use the facility
for spring training, you can get up close to real major
league ball. Another treat for fans is that the last
row of seats in the Field House is only 35 feet off ground
level.
Some of the
large, national competitions and uses for the sports complex
are Atlanta Braves spring training, the PGA's National Car
Rental Golf Classic at Walt Disney World Resort,
Harlem Globetrotters Basketball, and the Walt Disney World
Marathon. The complex is also home to the Amateur Athletic
Union (AAU).
The facility's
seating will make you feel like part of the action, but if
that's not enough try the NFL Experience.
You'll feel like you're in rookie training camp as
instructors test your ability in various football skills
competitions.
You can also do
some shopping after taking in the game. There are stores
that sell team and sports clothing as well as a large
branch of the Official All-Star Cafe.
