TOMORROWLAND
|
Timekeeper
This
attraction was once the America the Beautiful 360-degree
movie. Now
it’s the Timekeeper,
a creative show that uses luminaries of science fiction
writing like Jules Verne, a robot-host animated by the voice
of Robin Williams and huge movie screens that encircle the
audience to tell an inspiring story about imagination. The
attraction is an interesting experience as huge screens
reflect numerous 360-degree point of view shots. The main
drawback of the ten-minute show is that there are only lean
rails and no seats. After
a long day of walking and standing, this could get tiring.
Space
Mountain
Expect
to wait in line for this famous attraction. Dubbed
"Florida’s Third Highest Mountain", Space
Mountain is yet another classic ride that shouldn’t be
missed. Hard-core roller coaster riders will be disappointed
to learn that the ride’s
top speed doesn’t break 30mph, but it feels as if you are
traveling at twice that speed as you negotiate twists and
turns almost completely in the dark. Special effects like
strobe lights and streaking comets create a thrilling ride
through the cavernous structure. While you wait in line you
can hear the screams of the passengers echo throughout the
building. This builds up the excitement, but also
necessitated the construction of a bail-out area before
boarding. Older kids should have no problem handling the 2
½-minute ride.
Alien
Encoutner
This
is one of the most exciting attractions in Disney. Much
scarier than the typical Disney ride, the ExtraTERRORestrial
Alien Encounter is based on the Alien series of
movies. The
twenty-minute presentation surrounds the futuristic
corporation XS-Tech, and a teleportation experiment gone
horribly wrong…
A
gruesome alien is accidentally transported into the room and
eventually breaks free of it’s bonds. As the alien
scampers around the chamber, you’ll want to jump out of
your seat and run for the exits. The show is exciting and
uses some terrific special effects to really give you a
start. (We wouldn’t give away any surprises) There are
moments of complete darkness and speakers imbedded into the
rear of the seats really add to the thrill .
Small children will probably turn white and pass out, but
older kids and teens won’t have a problem.
When
the ride was first presented to Disney CEO Michael Eisner,
he sent the designers back to work because thought the ride
wasn’t scary enough. They solved the problem extremely
well.
